Delhi-Surat morning flights slashed by Air India

Surat: Air India's (AI) recent decision to curtail frequency of its morning flight between Delhi and Surat from six to four days a week from January 14 has not gone down well with frequent flyers from the Diamond City.
AI took the decision to reduce flight frequency because of shortage of aircraft at its Delhi base. At present, AI operates a CRJ aircraft in the morning between Delhi and Surat.
Sources said AI's morning flight between Delhi and Surat has around 80% passenger load six days a week. Despite this, the airline has decided to curtail the frequency to four days a week from January 14 to 31.

According to the airport action committee, around 12,242 passengers travelled on the Delhi-Surat-Delhi sector in December month alone. Of this, around 3,054 passengers travelled in the morning CRJ aircraft and 9,188 passengers travelled to and from Delhi and Surat in an Airbus 320 aircraft in the evening. Sources said the evening flight performance is 90% plus occupancy whereas the morning flight is having almost 80% occupancy. Overall occupancy on the Surat-Delhi sector is 86%.
