Rs 55,000 for Delhi-Chandigarh flight: Airlines cash in on Jat protest

New Delhi: The ongoing Jat agitation is having its direct impact on flights to the areas affected by the protests. India's leading private carrier Jet Airways is showing a ticket price of Rs 46,235 for those wanting to book a flight to Chandigarh; the Delhi-Chandigarh road is blocked because of protests by Jats who are demanding reservation under Other Backward Class (OBC).

If you want to travel in the Premier class, you will have to shell out a whopping Rs 55,464. The website, however, shows most of these tickets are sold out.
Jet Airways will take passengers to Chandigarh via Mumbai. The total journey time for these flights is between 10-12 hours.
And if you want to wait for a day and board a flight to Chandigarh on Monday, the flights will cost you a fortune. A query on Jet Airways website shows a fare of Rs 53,614 for February 22.
However, other travel websites are offering tickets on the same route at a much lower price. A random search at makemytrip.com shows Air India and SpiceJet asking for Rs 3,359 and Rs 15,167 respectively.
