Police said an anonymous caller, claiming he was from the US, rang up the airline's call centre in Chennai said he had overheard two Pakistanis talk about a possible attack. The said flights were thoroughly scanned at the destination airports. But a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was called immediately at Terminal 1D.
"The caller identified the eleven flights as Delhi-Kolkata 6E 591, Delhi-Chandigarh 6E 516, Delhi-Chennai 6E 443, Ahmedabad-Kolkata 6E 135, Delhi-Mumbai-Kochi 6E 223, Chennai-Mumbai-Delhi 6E 612, Delhi-Goa 6E 329, Guwahati-Delhi 6E 571, Delhi-Goa 6E 161, Delhi-Baroda 6E 734 and Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi 6E 853. He claimed to be calling from the US. Subsequently, the flights were grounded after the ATC and security agencies concerned were alerted," said a senior police officer.
"Flight 6E 853 was taken to the isolation bay and all passengers were evacuated. A detailed search was conducted for over four hours and then the plane was declared clean. It took off for Pune around 7pm," the officer said.
