Karipur: The second phase of the Karipur airport runway renovation works is likely to be completed by this month and the runway would be opened for operation on April 4, it is learnt.
Vishal Construction Company, which has taken up construction works for the airport, expects the works to be completed 6 months before the stipulated time set by the Airport Authority of India ie.February 2017. The first phase tarring work of the runway was completed 2 months back.
After the first phase completion of work, 2400 metres of the runway was opened for operation. A cavity where soil was excavated to strengthen the runay was filled by setting aside 400 metres of the tarring for this. The runway was dug 53 metres in length and 50 metre wide. The cavity was filled with white mix Macadam concrete and strengthened.
