New cabin at airport to cut passive smoking

Thiruvananthapuram: To check the ill-effects of passive smoking, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has opened a designated cabin for smokers at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport.

The facility, from the Netherlands, can accommodate 10 persons and has five stage filters and an odourless ashtray. Airport Director George G. Tharakan inaugurated the facility on Friday.

The air-conditioned cabin stops the spread of harmful nicotine in the atmosphere. Cooled air, after purification, is re-circulated in the cabin.
