Crane operator booked for ‘crash landing’ of A320

Hyderabad: A case of negligence under Section 336 of IPC against Air India and the crane operator has been registered by Bowenpally police in the aftermath of the incident in which an A320 being transported on the road fell on the wall disrupting traffic in Balanagar and Bowenpally area.

The day after it fell to ground, the hull of the Airbus A320 aircraft stayed put even as Air India worked through Monday to clear it.

The hull crashed on Old Airport road when it was being towed from the Begumpet Airport to Central Training Establishment in Balangar. The crane hired to move the aircraft crumbled under the weight of the hull in the early hours of Sunday, causing the deregistered aircraft to fall on a wall. According to AI officials, a third-party crane services provider was hired for the job. Trials were conducted during the week before but Sunday’s incident was unexpected, a spokesperson for Air India said.
