The new financial year will make flying expensive, especially for those travelling in groups, what with certain fees and taxes slated to go up from April 1. That apart, cancellation fee charged by some airlines will rise for bookings after Friday.
The development fee charged by Mumbai airport will rise from Rs 100 to Rs 120 for domestic passengers. For international passengers, it will rise from Rs 600 to Rs 750.
From Friday, low-cost carrier Indigo will apply a new cancellation policy. It will now charge a flat cancellation fee of Rs 2,250 for domestic tickets cancelled up to two hours before departure. For the international sector, the charge will be Rs 2,500 up to four hours before departure. For those who cancel their tickets after this deadline, the airline will levy a no-show charge.
Last year, too, the airline had revised its cancellation fee. Till April 2105, Indigo had charged a flat cancellation fee of Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 per passenger on domestic and international routes, respectively. From April 1, 2015, though, the airline changed its cancellation policy and domestic passengers who cancelled their booking two to 48 hours before departure were charged Rs 2,250, while those who cancelled 30 or more days in advance were charged Rs 1,250. For international tickets cancelled four hours to seven days before departure, the fee was Rs 2,500.
