Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad airport continues to get large numbers of tourists availing e-tourist visas, since the scheme was launched in September last year. As many as 6,814 tourists availed etourist visas at city airport till February 2016. Maximum arrivals of tourists on e-tourist visas were from countries like UK and USA followed by Russia, France, Germany , Australia and Canada, among others.
Six other airports, including Varanasi, Lucknow and Amritsar, too, have e-tourist visa service approval along with Ahmedabad. But Ahmedabad airport has received maximum tourists among the airports, who have sought this service.
As many as 1,851 tourists availed e-tourist visas at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the month of February 2016.Around 228 availed the scheme in September followed by 560 in October, 777 in November, 1,855 tourists in December 2015 and 1543 in January 2016.
According to Union ministry of tourism, this high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-tourist visas for 150 countries, as against the coverage of earlier scheme of visa on arrival (VoA) for 43 countries. As many as 37 countries were added in the list in February this year.
