Jodhpur: Deck for expansion of the Jodhpur Civil Airport has finally been cleared after an MoU was signed between Airport Authority of India (AAI), IAF, state government and Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday in New Delhi at the behest of defence minister Manohar Parrikar.
This MoU will pave the way for transfer of 37 acres land by the Air Force to the airport authority for expansion of the civil airport. The airport authority will now proceed with the expansion work in next few days.
In return of this land transfer, JMC will provide similar size of land to the Air Force. Transfer of land by Air Force to the airport authority had been stuck as IAF was demanding 106 acres of additional land, thereby delaying the expansion project of the civil airport.
Confirming the development, MP (Jodhpur) Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that this 37 acres of land would now be immediately transferred to the airport authority and in next few days the work of expansion of the airport would begin. He termed it to be a major feat for the development of the city.
