Tourism dept to vend air tickets to UP destinations

Lucknow: Soon, if you want t fly to tourist destinations like Agra, Varanasi or Kushinagar from Lucknow, you may have to buy ticket from UP Tourism department. To provide wings to its plan to start intra-state air service in the state, the government is all set to introduce a system in which it will sell tickets directly to flyers after having already paid per-hour charges to service providers.

Briefing about the new incentives, principal secretary tourism Navneet Sehgal, who had a meeting with the chief minister informed that government will underwrite all seats and in turn give per-hour flying charges to airlines. Once UP tourism takes all the seats, it will sell them to passengers through UP Tour, the department's agency. Sehgal said UP Tour will have a special website and counter sale also for booking tickets.
Sehgal added that soon bids will be invited from the flying company and tenders allotted to company that quotes lowest flying hour rates. He sounded confident of the new scheme as promoters will not be concerned about sale of tickets and passengers as that would be the government's job and they would be given per-hour flying charges .
