Mumbai: Arrived early at the airport for your flight? Early bird options are being made available by a couple of airlines, with a spot payment of Rs 1000 per passenger that entitles a seat on a flight departing a few hours prior.
Indigo and Jet Airways have started offering the option to passengers that allows those who report to the airport early to choose travelling by an earlier flight by paying Rs 1,000, subject to seat availability.
According to Jet Airways, JetAdvance is available for flights in a four hour time band before the original scheduled departure. The passenger has to have a valid ticket for that day's flight and has to be physically present at the airport to pay for the flight change at the check-in counter. Indigo has an identical offer under Indigo Early.
The scheme by and large suggests that passengers flying between metros will benefit, since multiple daily flights operate mostly in these sectors.
"If you are booked on a flight for 6 pm, then your booking can be advanced for a flight departing at or after 2 pm," an airline staffer manning the airport counter said. Fort-based travel operator Reji Philip told Mirror, "It is rather surprising that other airlines in India have not caught up to this win-win initiative. Airlines sell a seat, which is otherwise going unoccupied, and passengers get a chance to reach their destination earlier."
