Indian aviation sector continues its double digit growth

India’s air passenger traffic grew by 22.87% in the first five months of 2016 with domestic airlines carrying 39.6 million passengers during January-May as compared to 32.2 million in the corresponding period last year.

Passenger traffic grew by a sharp 21.63% in May as compared to the previous year.

SpiceJet reported the highest occupancy among domestic airline with a load factor of 93.5% followed by GoAir (88.6%) and IndiGo (87.2%). Air India’s load factor grew to 84.7% in May from 78.9% in April.

“The passenger load factor in May slightly increased compared to previous month primarily due to the onset of tourist season,” said Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“SpiceJet continues to lead the PLF charts among all Indian carriers by clocking over 90% PLF for 13 successive months. The figure for the month of May stood at 93.5%, an industry best figure, as per the statistics released by DGCA. This is also the airline’s hiSpiceJetghest ever PLF,” SpiceJet said.
