New Delhi: State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sought Rs 50 crore from SpiceJet as interest on dues that the low cost carrier (LCC) had run up early last year under its previous owners. In early 2015, just before the airline was acquired by its co-founder Ajay Singh, the LCC's dues to AAI had reached almost Rs 200 crore.
"After Ajay Singh took over and some fund infusion happened, the airline started paying us daily. This daily payment started at Rs 25 lakh and the figure went up to Rs 1.5 crore. Now, the airline dues are diluted to Rs 10-15 crore and the daily payment is also down to Rs 1.2 crore. However, the interest on the earlier dues stands at Rs 50 crore and we are seeking that from the airline," said a senior AAI official.
The airline did not comment on the AAI interest issue. However, it is learnt that the management is trying to get a reprieve from the PSU on this front.
