CIAL to open state’s first executive terminal in September

Kochi:  Kerala's first dedicated terminal for business jets is expected to become operational at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) by September when the existing domestic terminal will be converted into executive terminal, after commissioning of the newly-constructed Terminal-3 (T3) for international operations.

Meanwhile, the existing international terminal (T2) will be converted into domestic terminal. Speaking to 'Express,' airport director A C K Nair said, "while there are many options before the CIAL to use the existing domestic terminal, the most ideal option is to dedicate it for business jet operation.

Of late, there has been a increase in the movement of business aircraft at the CIAL, with private players like Kalyan Group and Joyalukkas Group opting private jets for overseas trips.

CIAL managing director V J Kurien said that on average half-a-dozen business jets are operated at the CIAL every day. "The CIAL can tap the potential of business jet operation by dedicating a terminal for business aircraft," he said, adding that there would be more clarity on operating the 'dedicated terminal for business jets' once the the new international terminal is opened. According to sources, the CIAL can make use the dedicated terminal for providing aeronautical services such as fuelling, hungering and parking to business aircraft operators also.
