Indian airport reports successful biometric project

Officials from Hyderabad airport have confirmed that the facility has successfully completed a pilot project on biometric identification for allowing entry into the terminal. The system links a fingerprint reader to the country’s unique ID database, called Aadhaar, which is linked to biometrics. Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said the pilot project was held under the aegis of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). In most Indian airports, air travellers have to show their air ticket and a valid identity card to enter the facility. Aviation secretary R N Choubey has asked all airport operators, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and AAI, to study the potential of the system.
