Jet Airways will start a direct daily Bengaluru-Singapore flight on Wednesday. This is its second such flight to a south-east Asian country in two weeks, as it looks to increase connectivity in the region with the third busiest airport in India.
India's second biggest airline by passengers, part-owned by Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways, said the flight will also help those from Mangaluru, Coimbatore and Hyderabad connect to onward destinations such as Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and the Australian cities of Melbourne and Perth.
A round trip on a Jet flight in the economy class will cost about Rs 30,000 compared to Rs 52,000 in Singapore Airlines and just Rs 17,000 in low-cost airline Air Asia. Jet said all its three flights between Wednesday and Friday are running full capacity.
The move comes a week after the Naresh Goyal-promoted company announced plans to connect Colombo with Bengaluru through a daily direct flight from January. Bengaluru becomes the second Indian city, after Mumbai, to be connected by Jet. Low-cost carrier Spice Jet already flies to the Sri Lankan capital from Chennai.
