Ahmedabad: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has a new pilot at the helm. Manoj Gangal will take over from A K Sharma as the new director on Monday. His focus is to amp the airport’s WOW factor. And Gangal, who has worked at several airports across the country, believes that the only way to woo passengers is by ensuring their comfort. “The airport should reflect the ethos of Gujarat as well as attract citizens to visit us again and again. My priority is to revamp the airport to ensure that travellers have a pleasant experience here,” said Gangal, who has worked as airport director in Pune, Port Blair and Chennai.
He has also been associated with administrative and quality control work at Airports Authority of India headquarters.
Referring to Pune airport which is small compared to Ahmedabad but handles an equal amount of traffic, Gangal says, “Ahmedabad has great scope. It can become better and more competitive than it is now. I also plan to revamp Terminal 3 that is currently being used for Haj passengers currently.”
Passengers frequently complain of facing a harrowing time at the airport due to a myriad of problems ranging from lack of seats to lack of toilets, from baggage thefts to shortage of aerobridges, and from lack of eateries at the terinals to animals on the runway. Gangal said, “My highest priority is to fix the toilet issue, then revamp the building to make it more attractive. Anyone arriving here should leave with a good impression of the airport and its infrastructure.”
