Flying in and out of Delhi to get cheaper with immediate effect

New Delhi: Flying in and out of Delhi could get cheaper with immediate effect. Aviation secretary RN Choubey on Friday issued the order for implementing the much lower aeronautical tariff regime at the IGI Airport. "The order for implementing the second control period tariff order at Delhi Airport has been issued and will come into effect from today itself. It will shorty be on the DGCA website," Choubey told TOI.
Under the new tariff regime, flyers are not required to pay any user development fee (UDF) while flying into Delhi's IGI Airport (IGIA). And the UDF for flying out of here, which currently goes up to Rs 1,130 (without taxes), will also be slashed to a Rs 10 and Rs 45, per domestic and international passenger, respectively.

As a result, a Delhi-London-Delhi ticket may see its current arriving-departing UDF component for IGI fall from Rs 2,436 (with taxes) to just over Rs 50 — cheaper by over Rs 2,380. And a Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi ticket will see its UDF component fall from Rs 1,068 (with taxes) to Rs 12 — cheaper by Rs 1,056! For a family, the savings will multiply.
The Delhi International Airport Ltd's (DIAL) comments have been sought on the new tariff regime.
These slashed (for departing) and abolished (for arriving) UDF charges are part of the 96% lower tariff order that the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) had issued for Delhi Airport in December 2015. While this delayed "second control period" order was to be effective from April 1, 2014, to March 31, 2019, the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) did not implement the same till now by taking legal recourse. But acting on a petition filed by Air India, the Supreme Court on July 3 ordered that the same by implemented within two months.
