Ranchi: Heavy passenger flow to the state in this festival season has jacked up airfares with flights to Mumbai and Delhi topping the list.
On the Ranchi Mumbai sector a passenger recently had to pay Rs 17,000. "It hardly matters if I have to shell out Rs 17,000 to fly to Mumbai. This is a festive season and I have to go to celebrate the festival with my family members," said Amit Naik, a Maharashtrian who works with an NGO in Ranchi. Naik said that what annoyed him was that he had to wait for long to see if the prices go down towards the end, said Naik.
Almost all airlines connecting Ranchi with various destinations across the country are offering tickets to flyers -- in some cases -- at more than three times the normal fare.
At normal times, flying to Delhi from Ranchi cost around Rs 5000 per ticket. Almost same is the air fare for Ranchi-Mumbai flight. The Ranchi-Kolkata-Ranchi sector usually costs around Rs 3000 per seat and it has increased to Rs 6000-7000 during the festival.
