Kolkata: They had gone into hibernation soon after Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate took over pre-paid taxi booths at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA) in April last year. But more than one and a half years later, the taxi tout gang is back to hound travellers.
Though traffic police officers say that they hand over touts to the police station, prepaid taxi operators claim that the men in uniform are handin-glove with the touts.
Any traveller emerging out of the arrival lounge at the airport is sure to find taxi touts swarming around. Not only do they hound passengers to avail of the cabs they are offering, but they also jack up rates, almost double the pre-paid taxi fare.
