After ruckus, airline left 18 seats vacant

Ahmedabad:  After the ruckus created by Sunil Kakkad at the airport in Casablanca, Morocco, Qatar Airways left 18 seats vacant the next day to facilitate his deportation to India, said officials of city police.

Assistant commissioner of police BC Solanki said on Monday that Kakkad had started shouting at Casablanca airport saying that he is a citizen of Liberia and that he was being taken to India illegally. He even threatened to commit suicide. "This scared other passengers on the flight," said the ACP.

Solanki said that as other passengers were not willing to travel with Kakkad, many let go of the flight. "However, when the authorities received confirmation that Kakkad was being extradited legally, Qatar Airways left 18 seats of the flight vacant the next day so that the escorting police party could keep an eye on him. The police party boarded the plane with Kakkad after the other passengers had taken their seats," said Solanki.
