Airline operators' body likely to boycott function attended by civil aviation secretary in Chennai

Chennai:  The Airline Operators' Committee (AOC) at the Chennai airport is likely to boycott the inauguration of an Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) by civil aviation secretary Ashok Lavasa on Wednesday evening.

According to official sources, the inauguration has been arranged at the last minute. AOC officials said it would be an eyewash as no AOCC has been set up even after two years of airport expansion project.

AOCC is a control centre that assimilates and disseminates information. The system coordinates airport operation teams, air traffic controllers (ATC), airlines, ground handling agencies, security agencies and passengers.

It also shares information for airlines and other authorities on approach radars and weather conditions. It provides up-to-date details of flights to prepare passengers for any changes.
