'Threat of Aranmula Project not Yet Over

Kochi: There is no reason to heave a sigh of relief over the shelving of the Aranmula Airport project, said Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan.

If the rules according to the T S R Subramanian Committee report come into existence, it is pointed out that pollution control boards would be disbanded and the powers of the green tribunal would be diluted.

“Then, there will be a condition wherein any big project would get permission based on the information passed by them, considering their interest. Hence, there is not enough reason to heave a sigh of relief over the fate of the Aranmula airport project, which was a matter of concern for the Keralites in general,” he said, speaking after inaugurating the mass convention here on Friday, against the Central Government’s move to sabotage environmental laws through the T S R Subramanian Committee report.
