The civil aviation ministry has asked the Directorate-General of Civil
Aviation (DGCA) to provide it with five years of flight tariff date on
high density routes for past five years since 2011, official sources
said.
High density routes are those between the metros and some cosmopolitan cities like Bengaluru.
The regulator, however, does not have any software to track historical data on tariff prices and is finding it difficult to compile the data.
“We are trying to collate data from travel portals and other relevant websites, since for most routes we don’t have the data,” sources said.
The aviation ministry has been toying with the idea of capping fares; an official said it would continue to look at the tariff mechanism. Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati had earlier said airline ticket prices will not be regulated but that is being re-looked at.
