New Delhi: Riding high on frequent promotional fares, domestic airlines
together ferried 66.01 lakh passengers in June, up 16 per cent over
corresponding period last year.
Most carriers, however, logged lower flight occupancy during this period compared to May. Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture Vistara reported the sharpest fall in their seat factor in the traditionally lean period.
The full-service Vistara saw a seat factor of 59.3 per cent in June as against 71.1 per cent in May. The airline had launched operations in January this year. “All the airlines except Vistara came out with promotional fares last month. It was the main reason for fall in seat occupancy,” Amadeus India managing director Ankur Bhatia said.
Low-cost airline IndiGo maintained its leadership position with 38.4 per cent market share. It carried 25.37 lakh passengers during this period and reported a 86.6 per cent seat factor. In May, the airline had seen 92 per cent of their capacities booked by revenue passengers.
