Mumbai: The overall growth in airlines passenger has been in excess of 16 percent for all airlines combined, according to June passenger data released by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Experts are of the view that a part of this growth can be attributed to the fact that June is a month of vacation for most parts of India and hence the flight booking shows a decent growth. Another reason for this growth is discounts offered by resurrected airlines like Spicejet, which is doing everything these days to woo back customers.
Though running on a much smaller fleet after its troubled period, Spicejet saw the highest load factor of 93.2% during the month of June. Spicejet has just few days back launched an offer of buying one leg of a round trip booking for Rs 1 (excluding taxes, etc.). This is bound to attract more customers to the airline, who are known to switch loyalties for carriers on the basis of discounts offered. And this is partly because air service is more or less a commoditized product in the eyes of customers. The rise in load factors and indication of higher market share in near future, augers well for Spicejet investors, who are still apprehensive about the airline’s turnaround.
