Raipur: Raipur's dream to turning into a "hub" for the operations of
the low cost airlines, AirAsia, seem to have been grounded, as the
company is reportedly looking for other viable alternatives.
Hopes of AirAsia starting it flights and operations from Raipur were kindled last year following several rounds of discussions between the company, airport authorities and the state government. The 2013 visit of AirAisa's CEO and its technical team had sparked off speculations that the airlines may make Raipur as a hub for its operations due to the low fuel surcharge of 4% on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) at Chhattisgarh. In addition the airport has not night landing fee.
ATF surcharge in the state is perhaps the lowest in the country, with some states charging up to 20%.
