A safer airport coming soon

Kolkata: NSCBI Airport will have Isolated Aircraft Parking Position (IAPP) Rs special parking space created for an aircraft facing an exigency like hijack or bomb threat Rs by January 2016.
This bay will come up 100 meters away from the secondary runway and 200 meters away from the primary runway near Narayanpur in a remote location of the airport.
That is the buffer to protect operations at the airport in case an aircraft at the isolated position explodes. An aircraft with a bomb threat will be taken to the IAPP immediately so that the threat can be isolated and regular flight operations are not affected.

The cost of the project is Rs.24 crore and this is part of the second phase of modernisation, a senior airport official said. Airport Authority of India (AAI) has released the funds for the construction of IAPP.
Construction of IAPP has been started a month ago and will be completed by January 2016. The IAPP will be large enough to accommodate an Airbus A-380 and a Boeing 747, the largest civilian aircraft currently in use.
All necessary arrangements, including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, fire brigade, quick response team and ambulance with modern equipment will be available at the IAPP during a crisis situation to thwart any untoward incident.
