Air India Express starts Varanasi-Sharjah flights

New Delhi: State-run Air India’s subsidiary Air India Express today commenced its first flight from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi to Sharjah in the Gulf, bringing the temple city on the international air map.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma inaugurated the Varanasi-Sharjah flight (IX 183) from the city’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, which took off with 170 passengers onboard, Air India said in a release.

Air India Express (AIE) is the international budget arm of Air India and operates across the Middle-east and South-east Asia, besides some domestic destinations.
On this occasion, Air India Chairman and Managing Director Rohit Nandan, senior Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India officials were present.
The passengers onboard the Boeing 737-800 plane were accorded a warm welcome with rose buds, the release said.
