Coimbatore: Young and budding artists in the city will soon have a new venue to display their works—the Coimbatore International Airport. In a bid to change the facade of the fast growing airport and make it livelier for passengers, authorities have decided to open an art gallery exclusively for young and amateur artists within the premises.
Fliers will be able to enjoy some of the local art after they check-in and wait to board their flight at this gallery, likely to open by the end of next week. The gallery will feature sculptures too, in addition to sketches and paintings.
"Preference will be given to artists from Coimbatore and western districts," said a senior airport official. "The presence of a colourful and eclectic collection of art work will jazz up the security hold-in areas that look bland now," he said.
