Nainital: In a first of its kind endeavour to boost air connectivity in
the state, the government is mulling to start an air taxi service to
Tehri lake. The scheme is planned to incorporate three towns -- Tehri,
Nainital and Rishikesh -- and is likely to be launched in the next two
months. It is expected to significantly reduce travel time from Tehri to
Rishikesh or Nainital.
At present, the distance between Tehri to Nainital is about 180 km and it takes 2-3 hours to cover the distance by road. Once the service is launched, the distance will be reduced to just 25 minutes. Likewise, the travel time between Tehri to Rishikesh is 1-2 hours and it will be reduced to 15 minutes.
As part of the launch process, a team of tourism department officials along with experts of a Roorkee-based private company inspected suitable spots at the lake earlier this week.
