Seaplane operations unlikely before Onam

Attempts to revive seaplane operations again in the State before the forthcoming Onam, as announced, are unlikely as the government has not been able to overcome the opposition from the fisherfolk.

A meeting between the coordination committee of various unions of fish workers and Minister for Tourism A.P. Anilkumar and Minister for Fisheries and Excise K. Babu in the Secretariat here on Wednesday failed to arrive at a consensus on commencing the seaplane operations.

The meeting decided to organise a meeting with the expert committee that studied “any probable impact” of seaplane operations on inland fisheries, as demanded by the coordination committee.

It was also decided to hold a demonstration flight of the seaplane for leaders of the coordination committee, as demanded by them.
Official sources said seaplane will have to be arranged for carrying out the demonstration flight in the sanctioned route.
