PMO rejects aviation ministry candidate for heading BCAS

NEW DELHI: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is set to stay headless for some more time, with the Prime Minister's Office rejecting the candidate referred by the civil aviation ministry.

The ministry had in September zeroed in on 1984 batch Indian Police Service officer AP Maheshwari from among the three names sent by the home ministry for heading BCAS, the government's aviation security wing which has been doing without a fulltime head since 2012.

"The PMO has rejected Maheshwari's name without sharing any specific reason. A rejection means the process will start afresh and we have started the process," said a senior civil aviation ministry official, who did not want to be identified. It is difficult to say how long it will take to shortlist another candidate, the official said.

BCAS is currently headed by IPS officer BB Dash, who is second-in-command. Earlier, it was headed by a joint secretary in aviation ministry with additional charge.
