The rise in the number of passengers at the Trichy International Airport has brought in a revenue of Rs 47 crore, an increase of Rs 4 crore since last year.
The airport has also achieved a revenue of Rs 14.72 crore in non-traffic areas such as leasing out several spaces inside the airport - a 31 percentage increase since last year.
At a meeting held as part of celebrations over the Airport Authority of India formation, Gunasekaran K, airport director, said the airport has been growing at a tremendous pace with revenue increasing by the year.
Cargo exports and imports have also been rising in recent years, which brought in a revenue of at least Rs 2 crore. Cargo exports alone are set to cross 7,000 tonnes by the end of this year.
As domestic connectivity has been a constant problem at the airport, the authorities have drawn up plans to bring in more domestic carriers. Air India Express has evinced interest in this.
