Delhi/Mumbai: Low fare carrier GoAir plans from next calendar year to fly to neighbouring international regions and also operate charter services to Europe, two people in the know said Saturday.
The low fare carrier recently took the delivery of its 20th aircraft, fulfilling a norma that says Indian carriers have to fly local routes for 5 years and have a fleet of 20 planes to be considered for an international flying permit. The carrier started operations in 2005.
In a proposal to the civil aviation ministry, the Wadia group owned airline has asked for permission to fly to most regional routes including Gulf, Central Asia, South east Asia and China, said one of the people requesting anonymity
It also requested for charter flights to Europe. Go Air currently operates a handful of charters--roughly 2% of its capacity--to destinations like Port Blair, said the person said without elaborating.
