Oman reaches out to Indian tourists

Hyderabad: After establishing presence in four metro cities of India, officials from Oman’s tourism ministry conducted roadshows in Hyderabad to expand their presence. They said that Oman received 2,99,022 Indian travellers in 2015, reflecting a 17 per cent increase from the year 2014.

“Our strategy has been to position Oman as a high quality destination attracting evolved travellers from India. It was never a mass destination or a backpackers destination,” said

Lubaina Sheerazi, Indian respresentative of Oman’s tourism ministry, at a press conference here on Monday, in association with Oman Air.

The ministry’s deputy director general International Tourism, Asma Al Hajry, said that they see a huge potential in destination weddings and that around 10 destination weddings have been organised in Oman in the past two years.

Lubaina said they have seen travellers who have travelled a lot and want to explore new destinations across the world. “They want to experience authentic food and culture; want to interact with locals so that their experiences are more enriching and meaningful,” she added.
