New Delhi: Air India will start direct flights between Delhi and Copenhagen from September 16, making the Danish capital its 11th destination in Europe.
Air India chief Ashwani Lohani said that the flight will operate thrice a week initially and later be made a daily service.
The airline will start flying to two new international destinations from Delhi in the coming months — Washington (from July 7) and Stockholm (August 16). It also plans to add three more cities by the end of the year, including some in the US.
Denmark's ambassador to India Peter Taksoe-Jensen said he had been requesting AI to fly to Copenhagen as there is no direct flight between the countries.
"Flying between India and Denmark via some stopover in Europe inceases travel time to 11 hours. The direct flight will take under 8 hours. Travel from India to Denmark has grown tremendously. In 2015, we issued 18,000 visas in India and since then we are witnessing 20% jump every year. This direct flight will be good for the growing business between the two countries and increase people-to-people contact." the ambassador said.
