Centre seeks Supreme Court help in Air India-Indian Airlines merger

New Delhi: The Centre on Friday sought the Supreme Court's intervention to help implement merger of Indian Airlines and Air India by seeking quashing of a Bombay high court order which directed Air India Ltd to implement Industrial Disputes Act provisions relating to employees.

A bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha issued notice to Air India Employees Union, which had successfully stalled the merger without the company implementing Section 9A of the ID Act that mandated giving them 21 days notice on change of service conditions.
